Dear Friends,
I love living in a secular multi-cultural society. The Compassion Cultivation Training course I teach is a secular program open to people of every faith, as well as to those who are atheists or agnostics. I also teach Christian Meditation as taught by Father John Main.
This weekend, I am acknowledging my faith and engaging in prayer. I follow the advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and try to pray, practice my faith, and also study Tibetan and other Asian mind-body and meditation practices to calm my mind and heal my body. Currently, I practice and teach online sitting meditation.
I am now beginning to study Vajra Yoga, Qigong, and Tibetan Yoga, as well as the work of the Pocket Project on collective trauma healing. My professional training includes twelve years of training as a physician-scientist and several years of training to become a meditation teacher.
I have always been fascinated by the stories of those who trained as compassion warriors. In my youth, I chose medicine over teaching Tibetan or Vajra yoga. Ideally, this training should begin at a young age, such as during childhood or in adolescence. The current crises unfolding have motivated me to pursue further study and training.
